Orientation held in May for Albany schools

Kindergarten registration is now open, and orientation and enrollment events begin in early May for Greater Albany Public Schools. The district is home to several kindergarten classes across 12 elementary schools in Linn and Benton Counties.
“We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2036 to our schools this fall,” said Superintendent Andy Gardner. “We hope our incoming kindergarten families will enroll their students this spring and visit their home school during orientation.”
Before the student’s orientation day, families are encouraged to register their student online at https://albany.registar.lblesd.k12.or.us/en-us/home.aspx.
Kindergarten orientation and enrollment events are as follows:
- Lafayette: May 5 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., 3122 Madison St. SE
- Liberty: May 9 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., 2345 Liberty St. SW
- Meadow Ridge: May 3 from 4 to 6:30 p.m., 385 Timber Ridge St. NE
- North Albany: May 11 from 6 to 7 p.m., 815 Thornton Lake Dr. NW
- Oak: May 4 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., 3610 Oak St. SE
- Oak Grove: May 4 from 6 to 7 p.m., 1500 Oak Grove Dr. NW
- Periwinkle: May 4 beginning at 5 p.m., 2196 21st Ave. SE
- South Shore: May 4 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., 910 Bain St. SE
- Sunrise: May 2 from 6 to 7 p.m., 730 19th Ave. SE
- Takena: May 4 from 6 to 7 p.m., 1210 12th Ave. SW
- Tangent: May 9 beginning at 4:30 p.m., 32100 Old Oak Drive in Tangent
- Waverly: May 4 beginning at 7 p.m., 425 Columbus St. SE
A student will be admitted to kindergarten if their fifth birthday occurs on or before September 1, or is a kindergarten student transferring from a public school in another district. Students with a birthday between June through August have the option of waiting to enroll in kindergarten. If a student has already completed kindergarten, that student is not eligible to repeat kindergarten and will be enrolled in first grade.
Families can help their child prepare for kindergarten by reading aloud to the child each night, and by developing and following morning and evening routines. La inscripción para Kínder ya está abierta y los eventos de orientación e inscripción comienzan a principios de mayo para las Escuelas Públicas de Greater Albany. El distrito alberga varias clases de Kínder en 13 escuelas primarias en los Condados de Linn y Benton.

Un estudiante será admitido en el Kínder si cumple cinco años el 1 de septiembre o antes, o si es un estudiante de Kínder que se transfiere de una escuela pública en otro distrito. Los estudiantes que cumplen años entre junio y agosto tienen la opción de esperar para inscribirse en Kínder. Si un estudiante ya completó el Kínder, ese estudiante no es elegible para repetir el Kínder y se inscribirá en primer grado.
Las familias pueden ayudar a su hijo/a a prepararse para el Kínder leyéndole en voz alta todas las noches y desarrollando y siguiendo rutinas matutinas y vespertinas.
