Our South Shore intermediate and advanced orchestra’s performed last night at Memorial Middle School. Both groups sounded great and were excellent representatives of our school community. The orchestra program includes 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders at South Shore and is sponsored by Mid Valley Prelude Sinfonia. The program is one of several at our school that is supported by the Albany Schools Foundation.
Working in coordination with Oregon State University, we had a fun family science night last weekend. Students made paper rockets, tested the pH of different substances, rode a Segway, and played several science games. The engineering students from OSU were great to work with and students were able to see how learning math and science in elementary school can lead to a career in engineering.
5th Graders completed the physics unit with balloon care races on Thursday night. The unit included studying Newton’s laws, gravity, and friction.
4th and 5th grades also completed a fish dissection to start the biology unit. Lots of hands-on learning thanks to Ms. Ealy and Ms. Clunes!
